After 2 years of treatment, Richard “Chip” Ryen, has succumbed to cancer at the age of 45. Chip has served with the Oradell Volunteer Fire Department for nearly two decades. During that time, Chip lead our department by serving as Fire Chief and Department President.

Chip has completed 2 weeks of Radiation and is now in the process of taking Chemo. He does get sick at times from his treatments but is doing better then we all imagined. His appetite is increasing and he is able to eat almost everything. He often gets up in the middle of the night to have cereal or pancakes.

His physical therapy is almost complete. His therapist told Chip that he felt Chip didn’t need any more and he has progressed better then expected.

Last Monday night, many gathered at Sanducci’s Restaurant of River Edge to help raise funds. A portion of the night’s proceeds were donated to the Ryen Fund. Chip was able to attend the dinner with many of his family members. All who attended had a wonderful dinner and had the chance to extend their good wishes to Chip in person.

The Famous “Oradell Fire Department Pasta Night” is just around the corner and ticket sales are flying. If you plan on getting a ticket, please contact the Boro Clerk’s office or stop by the Firehouse any night between 7:00 and 9:00 PM or on Sunday mornings.
